Coal firm intends to double output

RIO Tinto-owned Australian power company Coal & Allied is set to spend over A5b (4.8b) across the next seven years in an effort to double the company's annual coal output. Coal & Allied company chairman Chris Renwick says: "We envisage that Coal & Allied could potentially more than double its overall production from our existing portfolio of coal and other assets. It would require us to spend A5b on new projects." This would mean the firm would produce 58m t/y of coal by 2015.
