THE US Department of Energy has announced 37 ground-breaking energy research projects to receive a slice of the $400m Advanced Research Projects programme. The 37 successful projects were whittled down from a total of 3600 entries, and will share $151m of funding. The programme, part of president Obama's green economic stimulus, supports "transformational" technologies that will "disrupt the status quo" to overcome climate change and energy security. "We are not looking for incremental progress on current technologies," the DoE said when it announced the project.
