MIT method highlights radiation damage to human tissue

MIT scientists have devised a method to examine how radiation damages normal human tissue.The findings will be used to minimise side effects in cancer patients and develop treatments for radiation exposure.While radiation therapy effectively kills tumour cells,it also destroys healthy tissue nearby.The destruction of cells in the gastrointestinal (GI)tract causes side effects such as nausea and diarrhoea within days of treatment,and serious GI tissue damage years later.
