THE COTTON GINNING industry lost a giant with the passing of A.L.Vandergriff on May 21,2004 in Visalia,CA.He was 93 years old.Of the three major manufacturers of cotton ginning equipment in the world today,Mr.Vandergriff was executive vice-president of one,president of one,and the key components of the third is of his design.All three companies' product lines have been heavily influenced by his innovations.His career in the ginning industry covered an incredible 63 years.He was born in the little town of Posey,TX just outside of Sulphur Springs,TX on June 30,1910.He attended Austin College in Sherman,TX and graduated with a degree in engineering in 1936.After a brief teaching career in Sherman,he was hired by Joe Etter of the Hardwicke-Etter Ginning Company.Here,he worked with Mr.John A.Streun,who developed the Streun Big Burr Machine.
