Two earlier articles in this Medical Writing Tips series presented several guidelines for reporting important statistical information in scientific articles, including hypothesis testing. In this article, we briefly review hypothesis testing to set the stage for discussing two additional statistical procedures used for planning and interpreting scientific studies: estimating sample size and calculating study power.
