摘要

Shanafelt and colleagues found that 46 per cent of doctors reported symptoms of burnout. A cross section of US doctors completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire. Their responses highlighted feelings of bum-out, including 'emotional exhaustion' and loss of job interest. Doctors in frontline specialties appeared to be at a higher risk. Burnout may compromise the quality of patient care as well as have a widespread negative personal impact. The need to identify warning signs of burnout was emphasised by the authors.
