摘要

Investigators have determined a buildup of methane gas in the basement of an annex building caused the blast that killed 37 and wounded more than 100 at the Mexico City headquarters of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex). The 31 January explosion occurred in the basement of a building adjacent to the company’s 54-story tower. No evidence of explosives or intended attack were found, Mexico’s Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam told reporters at a press conference in Mexico City. No explosive residue was found, and there was no other physical evidence to indicate explosives were used. The gas buildup was determined in part by remains of some tubing and a gas regulator that may have been old and improperly installed, but that has not been confirmed. The specific cause of the gas buildup is still under investigation, Murillo says. A spark from nearby electrical work
