Showa Denko said today that it has increased its four-inch silicon carbide (SiC) epitaxial wafer production capacity by a factor of 2.5, to 1,500 wafers/ month, through expansion and improvement in production technology. The company produces the SiC wafers at its Chichibu plant, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. Power devices using SiC epitaxial wafers can operate under high-voltage heavy current and at high temperatures, compared with the mainstream silicon-based semiconductors.
