BASF, CSM form biosuccinic acid jv, plan commercial-scale unit

BASF and CSM (Diemen, the Netherlands) announced today that they will form an equally owned joint venture to produce biobased succinic acid. The news follows three years of research into the project and an announcement last year that the companies plan to form a joint venture. BASF and Purac, a subsidiary of CSM, are in the process of establishing the joint venture, which will be called Succinity (Düsseldorf) and begin operations in 2013. BASF and CSM have been conducting research into succinic acid under a joint devel- opment agreement since 2009.
