Banker: 2011 A Record Year for Chemicals M&A

Total equity value of disclosed chemicals M&A deals over $25 million totaled $82 billion in 2011, surpassing 2007’s previous record by some $26 billion, according to figures provided by Young & Partners (Y&P; New York). However, the generally strong year was dampened by uncertainty around the European debt crisis in the second half. Deal value for the entire year also more than doubled from 2010’s total of $39 billion, Y&P says. Last year was “a tale of two halves,” says Lee Harrs, managing director/chemicals with The PrinceRidge Group (New York).
