THE new US$1.5 billion Ramu nickel project is expected to begin production in 2012 as current commissioning ramps up and final construction works move to completion at its mine and associated Basamuk processing plant on the coast. A Supreme Court appeal to overturn the approval of the US$1.5 billion nickel-cobalt project is the only thing that may hold up production commencing.
