Approval for Wilgerup hematite mine

THE evolution of South Australia's Eyre Peninsula as a new multi-mine iron ore production hub has moved closer, with Centrex Metals securing South Australian Government approval to mine one of its iron deposits. The company's Program for Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPR) for the Wilgerup hematite deposit has been approved. "The PEPR completes the primary approvals needed to mine this direct shipping ore (DSO) deposit," says Centrex's managing director Jim White. "The approval lines up the first of what we are targeting to be a number of commercial hematite and magnetite iron ore deposits that will be simultaneously mined and exported from our proposed new bulk commodities port. We anticipate that Wilgerup will annually produce between 1.0 million tonnes and 1.5 million tonnes for up to 7 years," Jim White says.
