T he leading indicator for the chemical industry has risen for the sixth con- secutive month. The index is now at its highest level since early 2008. Production of chemicals and allied products rose at a 7.6% annualized rate in the frst quarter, compared with 0.7% in the fourth quarter of 2011 and 1.9% in the third quarter.
