Asahi Kasei to Close Spandex Operations in U.S.

Asahi Kasei Fibers (AKF), an Asahi Kasei subsidiary, says it has decided to restructure its spandex operations in order to improve business results and, as a part of this process, the manufacture and sale of spandex at its Asahi Kasei Spandex America subsidiary, located in Bushy Park Industrial Complex at Goose Creek, SC, will be discontinued. Asahi Kasei acquired the U.S. site in 2006 through the acquisition of Lanxess's spandex operations at Bushy Park; it also acquired Lanxess's spandex operations at Dormagen, Germany.
