The annual Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC) began today in Kuala Lumpur, under the theme of Megatrends: Shaping the Future of the Petrochemical Industry. IHS Chemical kicked of the event's seminars with coverage of the global pet- rochemical industry, a global energy overview, and strategies for chemical markets in Asia. Mark Eramo, v.p./chemical industry research and analysis at IHS Chemical said global demand for basic chemicals and plastics will by 2020 reach 1 billion m.t./ year, requiring 200 million m.t./year of internationally traded product. The Asia/Pacifc region will in 2016 consume 75 million m.t./year of ethylene equivalent, Eramo says.
