The strength of the U.S. petrochemical industry’s infrastructure and its relation to shale gas developments was touted by industry experts at IHS CERA Week, held this week in Houston. The advent of shale “is a catalyst for rebirth” for the petrochemical industry, says Jim Teague, executive v.p. and COO of Enterprise Products Partners. “The ethane advantage is strong and is driving new investments,” Teague says. With low-cost ethane derived from shale expected to prevail in the medium- to long-term, petrochemical producers are making more investments in large projects, including grassroots crackers and capacity expansions.
