China to Become largest Market for Solar Devices

The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP; Beijing) says that China, the world’s largest solar panel producer, is likely to become the largest market for solar devices in 2012. Europe is seeing a contraction in its solar devices market, MEP says. China's capacity to generate solar power is expected to double to about 5 gigawatts in 2012 and there is a potential to add more than 6 gigawatts. There is a photovoltaic (PV) project pipeline of 25 gigawatts in China, MEP says. As a result of the shrinking overseas market, China is pursuing higher domestic demand through targeted policies, MEP says.
