Lower Polymer Intermediates Profts Dent DSM's Results

DSM says its net and operating profts both decreased 13% in the frst quarter of 2012, to ?145 million ($188 million) and ?200 million, respectively, in the frst quarter of 2011. Ebitda was down 6% year-over-year, to ?306 million. The decrease in DSM's profts was mainly a result of lower operating profts within the company's polymer intermediates segment as well as the divest- ment of the DSM elastomers business, the company says. Net sales increased 3%, however, to ?2.29 billion.
