Dowel Joints:3 - Adjustable Dowel Sizer

As discussed in the articles in the last two issues of AWW, accurately located dowel holes and well-fitting dowels automatically ensure that the two parts of a dowel joint come together in precise alignment. The dowels should fit in their holes with no discernible slop. However, they must not be overtight or excessive clamping force will be needed during glue-up.I like to be able to insert and remove my dowels by hand. This can be done when their diameter is about 0.1mm undersize for the hole.
