Rapid technological change and shortened business cycles are key features of our 21st Century business environment. "This environment is challenging today's business leaders to extend their focus on the bottom line by becoming 'knowledge-focused"; says Ms Karen Bishop, author of Standards Australia's new KM Skills Handbook. According to Ms Bishop the crucial issue is, while the bottom line is accounted for by an organisation's financial resources and structural assets, what exactly does being 'knowledge-focused' require? The KM Skills Handbook, a pioneering publication, offers qualified insights and conclusions to this 21st Century management challenge. It is an in depth and application-friendly resource providing sample job descriptions for key Knowledge Management roles covering responsibilities, critical success factors and key characteristics of an ideal incumbent. For some of the more unusual and emergent roles, such as Knowledge Auditor and Information Literacy Manager, the author describes the objectives of the role, key tasks and core competencies required for success.
