Westlake Closes Pipe PVC Plant in Kentucky

Westlake Chemical says its subsidiary North American Pipe Corp. has shut down a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe facility at Springfield, KY in an effort to reduce costs and optimize production operations as a result of excess capacity in the PVC pipe market. The Springfield site is one of the company's smallest pipe facilities. Impairment and shutdown-related costs are expected to negatively impact Westlake’s second-quarter 2011 pre-tax earnings by about $4 million, the company says.
