Ravaged yet regenerated: Bond Springs Station has been through drought and fire, and back again. Yet the arid land is the breeding-ground for one of Central Australia's most successful Poll Hereford operations
In October, Grant Heaslip moved the last fat cattle off Bond Springs Station, sending them to market in Roma, Queensland. There's been no good rain at the 1,515 square kilometre station just north of Alice Springs since 2002 when 100% of their rangeland country - one third of their entire holding - was burnt out. Grant and wife Jan have been through drought before; in fact they arrived with their young family at Bond Springs in 1964 in the middle of an eight year drought.
