Uhde has been awarded an engineering and procurement contract by Yantai Juli Isocyanate Co., a producer of toluene di-isocyanate, for the construction of an electrolysis plant using by-product hydrochloric acid (HCl). The plant will be built at Laiyang, Shandong Province and will be designed to produce 100,000 m.t./year of HCl. Completion is scheduled for end of 2011. A new membrane-process electrolysis plant will convert the HCl into high-purity chlorine using the oxygen-depolarised cathode (ODC) technology.
