Monsanto swings to Profit

Monsanto swung to profit in its fiscal first quarter ended November 30, reporting net income of $6 million, compared with a loss of $19 million in the same year-ago period. Sales increased 8%, to $1.8 billion on higher seeds and genomics revenue. Sales in the company's agricultural productivity segment were flat, after sev- eral quarters of steep declines. Excluding restructuring charges, the company reported earnings of 2 cts/share, matching ana- lysts' consensus as reported by Thomson One (New York).
