Genomatica Partners with Tate & Lyle for BDO Scale-Up

Biobased chemical firm Genomatica (San Diego) says it has signed a joint development deal with agribusiness firm Tate & Lyle (London) to advance Genomatica's biobased 1,4-butanediol (BDO) platform. Under the terms of the deal, Genomatica will upgrade a fermentation and downstream processing unit at Tate & Lyle's Decatur, IL facility that will be ramped up to 13,000-liters/year using feedstock from Tate & Lyle's adjacent corn wet mill. Start-up is expected in the second quarter, with fully-integrated operations planned for the third quarter.
