Evonik Industries has signed a non-exclusive agreement to license technology for a hydrogen peroxide-to-propylene oxide (HPPO) plant at Jilin, China. The agreement was signed during a visit by Wang Rulin, the governor of Jilin Province to Evonik's headquarters in Essen, Germany. A 300,000-m.t./year propylene oxide (PO) plant will be built by a yet-to-be established joint venture between Jilin Shenhua and Jilin North Chemical Co., under the terms of the agreement. The HPPO technology was developed by Evonik and Uhde. "We're pleased to have gained a partner in Jilin Province for the attractive Chinese market,"said Dr. Yu, member of Evonik's executive board/Asia. This will be Evonik's second licensing of the Evonik/Uhde HPPO process, said Klaus Engel, chairman of the board of Evonik. In 2008 SKC (Seoul) started up a 100,000-m.t./ year plant at Ulsan using the process.
