Samsung, MEMC Form Polysilicon JV

Samsung Fine Chemicals (SFC; Seoul) and MEMC Electronic Materials (St. Peters, MO) say they have entered into an agreement to form a 50:50 high-purity polysilicon joint venture based in Ulsan, Korea. The jv will build and operate a 10,000 m,t./year plant at SFC's Ulsan site. The plant is expected to begin production in 2013. The two firms say they will split the undisclosed capital cost equally. The jv combines SFC's core competence in chlorination processes and high-purity purification technology with MEMC's semiconductor and solar technology know- how, the companies say.
