The U.S. economy grew at an annualized rate of 2% in the third quarter, slightly above the 1.7% rate of the previous three months. There was mild acceleration in consumer spending, as well as a significant increase of inventory accumulation. Other major categories saw deceleration in growth, including spending on new homes, which swung from a 25.7% gain in the second quarterto a 29.1% decline in the third. Final sales fell from 0.9% in the second quarter to 0.6% in the most recent three months.
