Abu Dhabi Combines Chemaweyaat and Adbic Petchem Complexes

Two competing olefin projects in Abu Dhabi have been combined into a single project, CW has learned. Abu Dhabi National Chemical Co. (Chemaweyaat), a joint venture in which Abu Dhabi Investment Council and International Petroleum Investment Co. (IPIC) each have 40% and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (Adnoc) has the rest; and Abu Dhabi Basic Industries Corp. (Adbic), a wholly owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi's state-owned General Holding Co., will together build one liquids cracker, sources tell CW. Chemaweyaat had been planning to build a world-scale cracker complex at Taweelah, between Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali, and Adbic had been developing a similar project near to Adnoc's Takreer refinery at Ruwais. The combined cracker will eventually be built near Ruwais, close to the three petrochemical complexes of Borouge, a 60-40 jv between Adnoc and Borealis.
