Energy and economic shifts highlight the need for strategies that emphasize flexible feedstock sourcing and market approaches, industry leaders told attendees at an AFPM International Petrochemical Conference panel on changing dynamics and global uncertainties in the petrochemical industry. The meeting was held earlier this week in Dallas. Petrochemical industry shifts over the past decade have centered mainly around feedstocks, but changes in China’s economy are also playing a role, says Tom Crotty, a director of Ineos and president of EPCA. “The situation ten years ago way that you had one low-cost petrochemical production center in the Middle East,” Crotty says. “And China was growing at double-digit growth, mopping up everything the Middle East could produce.”
