Fitch: Chemical prices to rise in 2017

Modest price increases in the energy sector are expected to result in higher prices for petrochemicals, plastics and other chemicals, according to a new report from Fitch Ratings (Chicago). The higher prices will help improve earnings, sales, and cash flows for North American chemical makers in 2017, Fitch adds. Commoditychemical prices, including ethylene, propylene and methanol, have seen a modest uptick in the second half of 2016 as both demand and feedstock prices have risen-this compares with large price declines in 2015. The outlook for demand is generally solid, as well. “Market conditions support stable operating profiles for North American chemical companies in 2017, as most rated issuers have solid financial profiles and robust liquidity,” Fitch says.
