Dow and Mitsui to Form Ethanol- Based Biopolymers Venture in Brazil

Dow Chemical and Mitsui & Co. say they have agreed to form a joint venture in Brazil for the production of ethanol and biobased polymers to supply the global high-performance flexible packaging, hygiene, and medical markets. Financial terms were not disclosed. Under the deal, Mitsui will acquire a 50% stake in Dow's existing sugar cane operation at Santa Vitória, Brazil. The first phase of the jv includes constructing a new sugarcane-to-ethanol plant at Santa Vitória.
