Bayer Refocuses Ag Activities

Bayer says it will refocus strategy in its CropScience unit around four key strategies, including restructuring of its crop protection business; improved customer focus across the "seed-to-shelf" value chain; refocusing of R&D, including a doubling of the budget on seeds and traits research; and extension of its seeds and traits business to new crops such as soybeans, rice, and wheat. Bayer says it will phase out older crop protection product lines, increase focus on key brands, and boost its presence in emerging markets. Bayer says it is accelerating the phase-out of all remaining WHO class I insecticides by the end of 2012.
