A. Schulman reported net income of $9.2 million in its fiscal first quarter ended November 30, down 46% from the same period last year. Excluding one-time charges, the company reported net income of 34 cts/share. Earnings missed analysts' consensus of 45 cts/ share, as reported by Thomson One (New York). Sales increased 37%, to $495 million. Volumes increased 53%, largely due to the addition of ICO (Houston), the specialty chemicals business Schulman acquired in May.
