An update on insecticide resistance in cotton aphids

There are two aphid species that are pests of cotton in Australia The major pest species is cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii) while green peach aphid (Myzus persicae) has been a pest of sporadic occurrence Cotton aphid is still susceptible to the standardorganophos-phate sprays used in cotton but green peach aphid has increasingly survived these sprays. If aphids cannot be controlled before boll opening, aphid honey dew production in mature plants can severely down grade the cotton lint value. During the 1992-93 season, green peach aphid again infested cotton in NSW, particularly in the Macquarie Valley.
