BASF says it will establish two new polyurethane (PU) solutions system houses at Chongqing, China and Cartagena, Colombia. The Chongqing PU system house will have local production with sales, technical service and development personnel to meet the demand of the growing Chinese markets, including construction, appliance, trans- portation, and footwear, BASF says. Start-up is expected by 2012, the company says. BASF had previously announced to build a methylene di-para-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) plant at Chongqing. "The new PU system house will be fully backward integrated into the planned MDI plant, a significant advantage our customers can benefit from," says Jacques Delmoitiez, president of BASF polyurethanes. The new system house will closely work with the two existing system houses and development centers at Shanghai and Nansha, China the company says.
