摘要

The European Parliament has rejected a request by several members to refer the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) for an opinion. CETA is a major trade agreement between the European Union and Canada. Eighty-nine members of the European Parliament (MEPs) had questioned whether the investor protection provisions contained in the agreement are in line with the right of individual governments to regulate in order to achieve legitimate public policy aims, such as protecting health, safety, or the environment.
