LENZING TO INCREASE GLOBAL FIBERS CAPACITY

Lenzing says it will invest a total of european dollar 285 million ($380 million)to expand its fibers capacity in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. The investments will increase Lenzing’s current cellulose fibers capacity by about 25% from the current level of about 700,000 m.t./year. The investments are in addition to Lenzing’s fibers expansions announced last year. The expansion plans are part of Lenzing’s goal to reach fibers production capacity of 1 million m.t./year by 2014. Under the latest announcement, Lenzing will invest european dollar 130 million to construct Tencel-brand fibers at Lenzing, Austria. Planned capacity is for 60,000 m.t./year, and will be the world’s first fully back-integrated site for Tencel fibers. Lenzing also plans to invest $30 million to increase its Tencel fibers productionto 50,000 m.t./year at Mobile, AL. A production line that was decommissioned by a previous owner will be modernized and upgraded to meet strong demand, Lenzing says. Lenzing will expand viscose fibers capacity at Purwakarta, Indonesia by 80,000 m.t./year, to 325,000 m.t./year by 2013. The company says it will invest $130 million in the project. Capacity will be mainly sold to the “fast-growing” Indonesian market, Lenzing says. Lenzing will also expand a second production line for viscose fibers capacity at Nanjing, China. The company says it will invest $18 million to increase the line’s capacity to 160,000 m.t./year. The capacity will be available from 2012, Lenzing says. Lenzing is currently constructing the second viscose fibers line at Nanjing. The line will have capacity for 140,000 m.t./year when in comes on line in mid- 2011. Construction on the project to expand capacity to 160,000 m.t./year at Nanjing will begin immediately after this project is complete, Lenzing says.
