Albemarle, Petrobras Plan Catalyst Plant in Brazil

Albemarle and Petrobras, through their joint venture Fabrica Carioca de Catalisadores (Santa Cruz, Brazil), say they have signed a memorandum of understanding to build a world-scale hydroprocessing catalyst (HPC) plant at Santa Cruz. The companies say demand is expected to grow significantly for HPCs due to the implementation of more stringent specifications for ultra-low sulfur diesel in Brazil. The jv produces fluid catalytic cracking catalysts. Albemarle and Petrobras say they are also forming a joint technical alliance aimed at further developing advanced hydroprocessing catalysts. The companies did not say when the new HPC plant was scheduled to start up.
