ADDITION REACTIONS OF P-CARBORANYLCARBENE - EPR SPECTRA OF M-CARBORANYLCARBENE AND P-CARBORANYLCARBENE

p-Carboranylcarbene adds to alkenes with nearly complete retention of stereochemistry, thus implying the singlet state as the predominant reacting species. Nonetheless, EPR spectroscopy shows that the ground state of this intermediate is the triplet, as is the ground state of m-carboranylcarbene. [References: 12]
