The oxygenation of the Diels-Alder derivatives 5, 6, 16, and 21 was investigated with MCPBA, dimethyldioxirane, osmium or ruthenium tetroxide, and molecular oxygen to yield the angucycline analogues 8, 10, 12, 17, 19, 23, and 24 with different oxygenation patterns.
