Evaluation of herbicides for safe use on transplanted cut-flower crops grown in spanish tunnels

There is scope for increasing the quality and seasonal availability of field-grown cut-flowers in the UK by growing in low-cost polythene tunnels. One factor that limits production is the lack of information on the safety of herbicides over the widerange of species grown. It may be possible to extrapolate herbicide usage from one species to others in the same family (2), so representative species of relevant plant families were treated with a range of potentially useful herbicides. Species of families recently tested elsewhere (Dianthus barbatus (Caryophyllaceae), Delphinium spp. (Ranunculaceae) and chrysanthemum (Compositae)) (1) were not included.
