Chemical output in European rose by a paltry 0.3% in 2014, compared with the previous year, according to the latest Cefic Chemicals Trends Report. European chemical sales clawed back to peak levels achieved in 2008, but were 5.3% below the peak level registered before the financial crisis that began in 2007. EU chemical prices fell by 1.8% in 2014 compared with full-year 2013. Production levels fell by 1.2% in December 2014 compared with the year-ago period. “Flat growth in 2014 was partly due to sagging exports,” says Hubert Mandery, director general, Cefic.
