Artlant PTA (Sines, Portugal) is prospecting for buyers for the company, IHS Chemical understands. The company's plant, which went onstream in 2012, has not regularly produced purified terephthalic acid (PTA) since April 2014. The 700,000-m.t./year Artlant unit ran a production campaign in October 2015 and has been seeking PTA sales contracts for 2016, IHS Chemical understands. Artlant faces a challenge in loading its plant fully because the PTA market in the Europe, Mideast, and Africa (EMEA) region has changed radically since Artlant last participated as a major regional supplier. The region now relies heavily on imports of PTA and these have become part of the market's structure.
