Genetic analysis of resistance to pepper anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum capsici

Inheritance of the resistance to anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum capsici, was studied in Capsicum annuum L. populations established from a cross between accession '83-168', and cv. 'KKU-Cluster'; and their progenies in F_1s, F_2s and BC_1s. Theresistance was evaluated by inoculating mature green fruits with a 6-#mu#l drop of 10~6 conidia/ml suspension after making a wound with a 0.1-cm length needle. Reciprocal effects were not present. Two phenotypic classes, resistant and susceptible, weredetermined based on the numbers of fruits infected at four days after inoculation (DAI). The segregation of resistance to susceptibility appeared to be 3 : 1 in the F_2s and 1 : 1 in the BC_1 (F_1 X KKU-Cluster). This indicated that one dominant gene wasresponsible for the resistance to C. capsici in the breeding line '83-168' at 4 DAI.
