Nova doubles income

Nova Chemicals reports third-quarter income of $259 million, up 116% year-over-year (YOY) from $120 million, with all segments contributing to the gain. Sales totaled $1.4 billion, up 13% YOY from $1.3 billion. Operating profit in the olefins/polyolefins business unit increased 69% YOY to $414 million, and sales increased 13% to $1.4 billion. Polyethylene (PE) operating profit in particular increased 129% to $149 million, mainly the result of higher sales prices.
