In the present paper we study the propagation of Rayleigh waves along the traction-free boundary of a monoclinic elastic half-space. A monoclinic medium possesses one plane of elastic symmetry. The velocity equation for Rayleigh waves is obtained for a monoclinic medium with x_2x_3 - plane as the plane of elastic symmetry. It is shown that the well-known frequency equation for Rayleigh waves in an isotropic half-space follows as a particular case.
