Collecting Spatial Data: Optimum Design of Experiments for Random Fields, 2nd, Revised Edition

This is the second edition of "Collecting Spatial Data-Optimum Design of Experiments for Random Fields" which was originally published almost four years ago. Many of the misprints in the first edition have been corrected and exercises have been added at the end of each chapter. Developments in this area that have occurred since the publication of the first edition are included in the list of references and are also discussed in the book where appropriate. The book consists of six chapters. The first chapter gives a very nice summary f the contents of the book. Chapter 2 gives an effective overview of standard geostatistical methods. Universal kriging is discussed as a special form of generalized least squares estimation. This is complemented by a discussion of local regression methodology and its role in spatial data analysis. For ease of discussion, most methods discussed in this chapter, as well as other chapters, are presented using two-dimensional spatial representations, although many of the methods generalize to higher dimensions in obvious ways.
