Northwest Innovation Works to build eight methanol units in US

Northwest Innovation Works (NWIW; Kalama, WA), a company owned by Chinese investors, has significantly scaled up its planned investment to build methanol capacity in the US Pacific Northwest. NWIW’s methanol output will be shipped to Asia, particularly China. NWIW says it is planning eight methanol lines across three locations, each with 5,000 m.t./day of capacity. The plan will give NWIW, in total, 14.4 million m.t./year of methanol capacity. Commissioning of the first two lines is planned in 2019, with the rest due to be ready two years later. NWIW’s parent is Shanghai Bi Ke Clean Energy Technology (CECC), a partnership between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Double Green Bridge Hong Kong, an investor group comprising members of CECC’s management. CECC is a technology-commercialization and project-development company with a portfolio of projects in the gas-and synthesis gas–to-chemicals and fuels markets.
