摘要

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; Parma, Italy) has completed its comprehensive re-evaluation of bisphenol A (BPA) exposure and toxicity. EFSA concludes that “BPA poses no health risk to consumers of any age group at current exposure levels.” Exposure “is considerably below the safe level,” the tolerable daily intake (TDI), whether from the diet or from a combination of sources (diet, dust, cosmetics, and thermal paper), EFSA says. BPA is used in the manufacture of epoxy resins, which are used as protective coatings in food and beverage cans, and in polycarbonates, used for reusable plastic tableware. Residues of BPA can migrate into food and beverages and thereby be ingested by the consumer.
